"top100io" - Tracking and Detecting Trends in High Performance Storage

Inspired by the top500.org list of "Top500 Supercomputing Sites," the IEEE Technical Committee on Mass Storage Systems will coordinate the development of "top100io" - a list of the top 100 High Performance Storage Sites.

On Wednesday, April 13, 5:30 PM, the IEEE/NASA MSST2005 organizing committee will sponsor a Birds of a Feather focused on the development of a benchmark test suite to be used for top100io. The top100io benchmark test suite will be heavily influenced by tools in use and advocated by the community. We are soliciting  help from both the user and vendor community to provide input to that process.

Vendor Expo participants at MSST2005 are encouraged to demonstrate storage bandwidth performance on both their individual systems, as well on multi-vendor shared environments, and to report results at this Birds of a Feather Session. The MSST2005 organizing committee will assist in providing gigabit Ethernet and 2-gigabit Fibre Channel connectivity between interested cooperating vendors, in order to allow sharing of host and storage resources across multiple vendor booths.

Vendors will have flexibility in configuring benchmark parameters to best showcase their systems, including choice of benchmark to use, blocksize(s) to use, whether to test single-stream or multi-stream performance, and whether to demonstrate read or write performance. However, tests should demonstrate a sustained bandwidth for a reasonable time duration, and should be performed against a single mount point.
